About Little River, FL

Little River, a historic neighborhood nestled in Miami, Florida, derives its name from the gentle stream that meanders along its northern border.

Established in the late 1800s, Little River was officially incorporated into the city of Miami in 1925. Bordered by El Portal to the north, Little Haiti (Lemon City) to the south, the Palm Grove Historic District to the east, and West Little River to the west, Little River occupies a central location within Miami’s diverse urban landscape.

This neighborhood is rich in cultural heritage and boasts several notable landmarks and attractions. The Cathedral of St. Mary, dating back to 1929, stands as a testament to the area’s spiritual significance and serves as the mother church for the Archdiocese of Miami. Meanwhile, B&M Market tantalizes taste buds with its delectable West Indian cuisine, earning recognition on Anthony Bourdain’s “Parts Unknown.”

Little River is also home to thriving creative spaces like Little River Studios, a popular hub for photography and film production. Additionally, the Earth N Us Farm, established in 1977, offers a unique blend of urban farming, community living, and vegetarian culinary experiences.

As one of Miami’s oldest neighborhoods, Little River has witnessed significant evolution over the years. From its agricultural roots to its present-day status as a vibrant commercial and residential enclave, Little River continues to reinvent itself, attracting creative entrepreneurs and young residents seeking its unique blend of history, culture, and innovation.
